When we started Bake-a-Diem, baking desserts was all that was on our minds. During the entire first year of functioning as a baking business, we focused a lot on making people feel special every time they purchased a bake from us. We always went beyond our capacities to make things with a personal touch. The first time we decided to do a gift box was during the Diwali celebration of 2019 (yes, celebrations and sending out gifts were a normal thing then!). But in deciding that she definitely wants to do the gift boxes, Lily unleashed my hidden love for curating gift boxes. For almost an entire year then I only kept thinking about what we could do to make the idea in my head to materialise.
My idea- as simple as curating gift boxes, but extremely complicated because I wanted to do so many things around it. I wanted it to be simple and awe inspiring. I wanted it to have a standard ‘Bake-a-Diem’ look, and still each one to be unique and fully customisable. I wanted it to be full of yummy bakes, but also include any other thing that the receiver would love. Finally, and probably most importantly, I wanted my packaging to be gorgeous and sustainable. Since I figured the things that I absolutely did not want to compromise on, the time that it took me to finalise how I should do it, kept increasing.
The first gift box that I curated was for someone extremely close to me, and this was what made me sure of how I want to go about my gift boxes in future.
It has been around 9 month now since I sent out my first personalised gift box. And really, I have never wanted to stop since then. If you have known me, even for some time now, you would know that I absolutely love to make people feel special with little gestures. These gift boxes have become the perfect way I am able to do this even for strangers. So when you approach me to get a gift box curated for a loved one, trust me, I am as excited for it to reach them as you are. Another thing that gets me ecstatic about these gift boxes is to know the fact that there is a person who trusts me enough that they would let me decide on things that they would give to the people they love.
These gift boxes have given me the opportunity to put together and work on a lot of things that I love doing. As many of you already know, Bake-a-Diem started as a result of the passion Lily and I have towards baking. I have, through these gift boxes, been able to bring together a lot of things I am passionate about. So when I am curating a box I put in not just a lot of effort in making it absolutely perfect for you but there’s a lot of passion that goes behind getting each element of it ready.
I write this today with the hope that whenever you read this, you know that when you asked me to curate a box for you, you have given a girl with dreams and passion some more reason to keep working on them! And so, I promise to keep making it more special and meaningful for you all.
